What links did you send to your MP. I've been looking online but can't find anything about those with children aged 19 shouldn't be receiving migration notices. My letter arrived last week, migration date of the 15th of August, son turns 19 end of July. Would prefer to have it cancelled and change over after he ages out of tax credits.

    I've pm'd you.
Wouldn't it be better to share on the forum so others can see it, it may help other people.

I'm guessing it refers to the Case Manager Guidance (Page 8 onward)

I've linked below for anyone wanting a read.

@HillStreetBlues has linked the correct document.

In my PMs, I gave people a lot more information which I was not comfortable to  share via the forum.

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • @olgadapolga . Hiya hope I've done this right so you actually see this
Just been reading posts about deferring migration to Universal credit as I have just managed to defer mine as my son is 19 and still in further education ( you know the drill ha ha )   like yourself it wasnt easy but they finally done it .  My question is they said once my son turns 20 in November my child tax credits will stop and I then go onto Universal credit  , what did you do once you had to transfer to UC  ? and did you lose money ?   Hope you get to read this as when I was reading the posts earlier on I read yours and it was like I'd wrote it myself ha ha xx thanks x

I havent seen anyone report what happens however…

I cant see UC knowing your son turns 20 so Im not sure if they will contact you will a migration letter, so you will need to claim UC.  It’s worth noting that even with a migration letter it was down to the claimant to start the process.   Migration would have given you a transition period however this will not be automatic if you simply apply.

If UC have noted the birthday and they send you a migration then your get the TP.

I would suggest you may well lose money, but it is all dependant on your circumstances, so use a benefit calculator as an estimate of your claim.

Sorry, I've just seen your post.

When they rang me (and wrote to my MP about it) they said that I'd get another migration letter "in due course" (what that means in practice is anyone's guess). So I haven't moved to UC as my son doesn't turn 20 until December.

I'm waiting for the next migration letter as we also get WTC and CTC for two children. Tax Credits will be ending in April 2025 so I guess that's the final deadline anyway.

Do you only have child tax credit as if that's the case then presumably your tax credits would end when your child turns 20 (unless you have other children on your claim)?

If you have no other children on your tax credits claim this will end the day before they reach 20. When you claim UC there will be no entitlement to child element. Which also means if you’re working there will be no entitlement to the work allowance. Unless you have a health condition that limits your capability to work and once you’ve been through the work capability assessment and found to have LCW or LCWRA.
