RIP OFF CAR INSURANCE RENEWAL QUOTES

The reason for it being so high is clear, so it is not ludicrous.0 -
maman said:I feel your pain @topcattiddles. I was miffed when my premium went up by 96% this year but your increase is mind blowing! At 84, my mother's renewal for a Citroen Cactus is £900, with a perfect driving record, living in a very quiet and peaceful bit of rural. No surprises AT ALL that a Range Rover Sport is going to be a big chunk higher. They're expensive to fix, they're very nickable, and one's just burnt an entire airport car park down.
I'm currently looking around for renewals for my car - and it's looking like it's going to be twice last year's, with the current insurer not even quoting.
Lots of car insurers made huge losses last year, which they're not only having to recoup but try to prevent against in the future. Car insurance has historically been very competitive, so low-margin, and claim costs have risen a lot with post-covid delays to bodyshops and parts supply meaning massively increased hire car costs.0 -

The parts supply issues appear to be well known. JLR decided to merge everything into one giant warehouse and now hasn't got enough courtesy cars to give out or even parking spaces to park the 10,000 vehicles that are now off the road across their brands. I can't see many insurers wanting to buy into that...

Unfortunately because Range Rover themselves ignored security concerns for years and they are the most stolen vehicle in the Country insurers are now making their premiums so high that they are effectively refusing to cover owners.0

There are videos easily available for free that show exactly how to quickly defeat the minimal security that is installed at the Factory0

My sister has a Range Rover and her premium has shot up this year as well. When she asked about it she was told it was because so many of these cars get stolen and insurers are becoming wary.0

I'm also struggling to get a renewal.
I have a RR Velar that cost me £660 last year to insure. No accidents or claims ever... And 5 years NCD. I've never been refused insurance before and now suddenly I can barely get a quote!
I'm 42, self-employed Operations Director, only do 3000 miles a year social use and no other circumstances have changed.
I tried several price comparison websites, direct line, admiral and a few others and absolutely nothing. Eventually I managed to get 7 quotes from Confused.com, however they are ridiculous. Cheapest is £16,000 and most expensive £35,000!!
What am I supposed to do!? It's ridiculous.0 -
If these (Comprehensive) premiums are that high, what is the price for Third Party Only?
It's almost at the point of self insuring for the additional Fire, Theft and AD risks.
Or sell it for another brand. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

I've had it listed for sale for about 5 weeks now without getting a sniff. But the fact I've had no interest in it despite it being priced low very much makes sense if it's practically impossible to get insured on...
