Extension telephone socket

We currently have our broadband router connected to the master socket downstairs but we'd like to move the router to upstairs in the study where an extension telephone socket is.
I hoped it would be a trivial task of relocating the router, plug in and away but unfortunately, no internet connection.
Without a telephone, how can I tell that the socket is connected or working?
Photos below:

Do these wiring look right?

This is the entry to the master socket.
Is it worth asking BT/Openreach (or an engineer?) to relocate the master socket?

Get a local company to have a look, a Master Socket move is well over £100 with Openreach.
Does you current master have just a single outlet with a separate microfilter ?1 -
yes it is an old Master 5C socket.Ayr_Rage said:Get a local company to have a look, a Master Socket move is well over £100 with Openreach.

You've shown us ONE socket, presumably the extension?moneysaver1978 said:We currently have our broadband router connected to the master socket downstairs but we'd like to move the router to upstairs in the study where an extension telephone socket is.

Any chance of a similar pic of the master? (Yes, I know it's the 'property of...')
And that outdoor JB - I presume the only used cable is the black one on the left? Does that definitely go to the incoming telephone wire?0 -
@Section62 I was answering this question

Not advocating an illegal socket move.0 -
That looks like part of a cable TV/phone system, rather than anything to do with a BT line.ThisIsWeird said:

Without a telephone, how can I tell that the socket is connected or working?Corded telephones can be picked up really cheap, and may be useful in case of emergency.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I agree (I have one for just such a purpose), but only until the landline system switches from the existing wiring to over the internet, unfortunatelyEctophile said:Without a telephone, how can I tell that the socket is connected or working?Corded telephones can be picked up really cheap, and may be useful in case of emergency.1 -
it's not clear what the pictures are supposed to be showing?
if you aren't getting a connection at the slave point in the upstairs study it would imply a fault between maser socket and there.

Start with opening the master socket and checking that these wires are connected to it. Some wires are excessive as I see only two wires going from the black cable into the house.moneysaver1978 said:
