For example, Moneysupermarket (other references are similar) say:Am I insured to drive my courtesy car?
You still need insurance to drive a courtesy car. Luckily, if your courtesy car is included in your insurance, your insurer should automatically cover you to drive it. If you’re getting a courtesy car but it isn’t through your insurance, though, it’s essential to make sure you’re fully insured. Driving any car without insurance is illegal, so you might have to buy some extra cover.2 -
How much are you after?0

This should not have happened in any even half way competent company. I know a one man band company who would frankly be dying of embarrassment if it had happened with one of his cars. Just very bad management.

No idea if trade or car hire ins will show in the same was as personal ins. Don't forget that any ins updates are not immediate, can take 72 hours or more. According to posters who work in the trade.Life in the slow lane0 -

I can't follow in your account how the situation went from this above, where you were asked to return the car because the MOT was due to this below, where you say that the car did not in fact already have an MOT ? What made you believe that there was not a current MOT in place, rather than it simply approaching the time where it needed to be reniewed ?Raj899 said:After discovering the car had no mot they still advised me to drive the car. To my horror I had been driving for 13 days without mot and technically no insurance.0 -
Alderbank said:Agree with above ^^^ but remember that as the driver it is your personal responsibility to ensure the vehicle has a valid MOT just as you must check for bald tyres, working lights, etc.
If you had been stopped by police it is you who would have got points and fine for no MOT.
Quick and easy to check online, just tap in the reg. number https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status0 -

And for the MOT was it genuinely a 3yo car that they gave you ? Or have you misunderstood/misheard and it was a hire/lease car approaching it's mileage limit (often 14k) and they wanted to exchange it for another one ?
Whilst not a regular user of insurance-based hire cars it seems an unusual position - especially for Aviva rather than one of the less reputable insurers0
