Bed slats cutting into new mattress

I've got a new mattress, and after 1 months went to turn it over and our slats are really making bad marks on it which is a worry Any suggestions of what (or what not) to use to cover the slats We have this for 100 day trial and don't want to ruin it just in case thanks in advance

We've got two beds - one with wooden slats and one with a metal frame type slats - never had any marks like that on either mattress, one of which is 20 years old. As above, maybe the wrong mattress.
