Dry chapped split sore hands!

Buy yourself a cheap box of latex gloves. Your hands still get freezing cold but they don't get the cold water on them which makes it worse. My daughter had a horse and this is what she used to do.
I find lemony flutter really good from Lush. Pretty greasy but it really helps chapped skin.0 -
I find my thumb ends split sometimes in cold weather, and boy do they hurt! I found that putting sudocrem on the splits at night helps heal them (my FIL used to be a brickie and he found it worked for him too).
Heavy duty hand cream like Neutragena or Atrixo extra rich is good for dry chapped hands. Always put it on last thing as well as any other opportunity!:wave:0 -
i have ordered a bumper box of latex gloves and some hemp cream and neutragena cream too. my thumb ends have split too, right on the pad and it's the part of the thumb that you use for everything! ouch!
thankyou everyone!
there are some great tips here!0 -
You have my sympathy with the splits on the thumb: I've got a crack on one finger and one thumb: put germolene and a plaster on last night and the PAIN kept me awake!
But they are a lot better today.
Just watch the latex gloves: I put some on the other day to clean out the cupboard under the sink where it smelled as if something had died, and my fingers went through the ends in about 5 minutes! I do have long fingers ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream is really good for dry chapped hands, it's multi use too as you can use it on your lips, cuticles, elbows, knees etc. I've had a tube for about a year now and use it for everything! I even used it when I burnt my lip eating pizza! My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say

I would recommened Lotil cream, alot of builders use it on cracked hands. Its avaliable from boots and its not too expensive around £2.50 i think
How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard - Winnie the Pooh0 -
When i managed a hair and beauty shop, this is what we always recommended -
Good moisturiser for dry hands ( I actually always recommended the Body shop stuff even though that wasnt here i worked!) cover your hands in it before bed, then put on some cotton hand gloves - they are made for this purpose. Not sure if boots do them, but hair and beauty supply shops do (they are not just for people in the trade), about £2 but are washable. Leave on overnight, and in the morning, much softer hands:)£2 Savers club £0/£150
1p a day £/0 -
Hi,
I know how you feel.I have often suffered and the best thing I found was Cetraben Cream. You can order it from Boots Pharmacy if you can't find it and it is realtively cheap. A large pump (makes for easy dispensing) is about £8 or £9 and lasts ages. It has a 1-2 year expiry date. I have two in the house so that I can put a small bit on regularly throughout the day and of course at night! It really does work.
Watch the latex gloves .... they can often aggrevate the condition and some people have allergic reactions to latex. Now debtfree except for the mortgage!0 -
I use old fashioned Vasaline as well0

Norwegian Formula for me - apparently tested by Norwegian Fishermen. I used to have a horse too and used this stuff on my hands all the time. No more chapped skin or cracked thumbs.0
