Dry chapped split sore hands!

Options
Now its very much winter my hands are so sore and dry. They are rough and split in the cold (I have a horse and it's bleak where I keep her) they are always getting plunged in and out of water.
Can anyone reccommend a good effective hand cream that will help my hands as they are really sore and rough!

I find Hemp hand cream from the Body shop really good smell is strong so not to everyone's taste if my hand's are really bad I smother them in this and pop on some thin cotton gloves. I also sometimes use a scrub, just pour some salt into palm of my hand add some olive oil mix it up and rub my hand's all over, prob best not to use it when the skin is cracked though. Poor you sound's really painful.
Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand cream is also brill.

It can help if you put on whichever handcream you choose BEFORE you go out and start working as well as afterwards. This puts a layer of protection on your skin and reduces the damage outdoor work does to your hands.

I use the hemp one and Virgin Vie do a really good treatment for hands, it's like wax, put it on before bed with cotton gloves and your dry skin has all but gone next morning.

I use Snowfire healing balm available from pharmacies, although they usually need to order it in but can usually get it for the following day. This is about £2 - £3. It is also ideal for sore cracked heals.

Once my skin is no longer cracked and sore I then use Derma Guard skin protector from Lakeland.

I find Bioselect Olive Hand Cream (light texture) very good, its not at all greasy and contains no nasties. I bought a tube at a farmers market once and its wonderful stuff as even my sensitive skin doesn't react to it
  • It's also worth thinking about old fashioned Vaseline as well. Not as fancy as some of the others but cheap enough that you can slather it on when you're working etc.

I take it you do wear gloves as much as possible :) sorry if too obvious but just thought I'd ask...

I love Burt's Bees hand salve, it's designed for "outdoor hands" and last ages because you don't need much
  • Neutrogena hand repair is really good.
