    Apologies if I have it wrong but I thought Android 13 was as high as you can go at the current time?

    I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
    The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
    There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
    I listen all night for your step on the stair.

    You can get good second hand phones from Facebook marketplace and eBay for prices around that bracket

    It's unlikely that Motorola phones for the OP's budget (or even double that) will have anything other than 13 for the next few months. My G62, bought in November 2022, has only been updated from 12 to 13 in the last couple of months. I'm currently considering buying either a G84 or an Edge 40 Neo and there's no sign that either of those will come with 14 in the near future, although the Edge does say it will be eligible for upgrades to 14 and 15 when available.

    My G84 is Android 13.  There are updates promised, but Lenovo Motorola are notorious for lack of product support.

    I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

    How much does it matter if you are on an old version of Android?
    No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    Eventually the older versions do not get security updates and will not run updated apps, especially from banks.

    I had to change my phone two years ago so I could continue app-based banking.

    £180 for the G54 from Amazon; £120 (or fewer) for the G32.
    You pays your money...

    Android version updates are not as important as regular security patches at his level of device. Try and get a device that has been released in the last year. Samsung A series devices are OK for the money, which is hard for me to say, but there you go. Some of the Motorola devices mentioned will do the job as well but don't discount, Redmi, Realme and other Chinese brands just because you are unfamiliar with the name. Nokia are also out there but they tend not to be as good value.
    As to which particular phone to recommend? Well would say that depends on what you want the device to do. What is important to you? Screen size, robustness, SD card use, battery life etc. Don't bother with saying camera as the budget is low and all the devices will have a camera that will take photos and that's all that you can expect at this level.
