Faulty electricity meter / SLT test / no appointment in 6 months
Hi everyone - my first time posting here so appreciate anyone's guidance thoughts.
I am currently supplied my electricity by eon and having moved in a year ago, my bills are sky high.
This is nothing to do with the change in pricing as I've compared my usage in my new home to my old house and we appear to be using four times as much (!) My bills have been as high as £500 a month and we are very cautious with regards to light on etc.
Anyway... I have contacted eon to explain this in March and was offered the chance to pay for a test to see if the meter was faulty which I paid. It is now October and they keep telling me that there are no appointments. I have chase them weekly and continue to receive the same answer. They have already compensated me by refunding the cost to have the test done and adding additional credit to my account but I just want the test carried out as each bill continues to be outrageous (last one yesterday was £330).
Wondered if anybody had any advice at all in terms of what I can do next to get this resolved?
Thank you!

Can you give us the moving in reads and todays please?
Are your bills based on Estimates ? I assume you have been giving monthly reads.
You say Electric - what is the type of heating ........... storage rads, water filled rads and a great big storage tank, panel heaters (hopefully not magic dust type). Make and models will help.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
You could raise a formal complaint, if you've not done so already.1

I agree with the other replies, let's start by understanding what you are being billed for and whether that is realistic.N. Hampshire, he/him. Meaning no offence, it's not the lights that have any significant effect on your electricity bill, it's anything to do with heating. Room heating, hot water heating, a hot tub, an electric aga; if your new house is heated differently to your old one that could explain why your electricity usage really is four times as much.SLF82 said:... my bills are sky high.

Start by doing the Meter Sanity Test.1

Thanks for the replies. The house/heating is run on oil so no gas in the village at all. The meter is an old smart meter so supplier receives actual readings automatically, however when we moved in there was no display to see when we were experiencing high levels of usage etc and the supplier says the smart meter is so old that they don't supply those displays anymore.Robin9 said:Can you give us the moving in reads and todays please?

No hot tubs or agas, the only difference between this house and last house is that this property doesn't have gas supply so this is replaced by an oil supply (boiler etc.)Reed_Richards said:

The in-house display is irrelevant, read the actual meter, and compare with your moving in reading to today’s. Oh and run the meter sanity test as linked above.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . If you would like help, post the make and model of the meter and we can give a guide as to which buttons to press. What did it read when you moved in? What does it read now?Are these readings consistent with the ones that your supplier has used when billing you?Does the serial number on your meter match the one on your bill?
Any you absolutely, definitely, haven't had your electric immersion heater switched on for the past year?SLF82 said:No hot tubs or agas, the only difference between this house and last house is that this property doesn't have gas supply so this is replaced by an oil supply (boiler etc.)

Bright or Loop might help the OP to at least establish whether it's periods of high use or a high background load causing the issues, but I've no idea how the installation of those works without an IHD as I know I needed the details from my IHF to install both and set them up.
