A Barclays rep, in a Barclays branch, suggested that if you open a 3% account alongside your 5% account then you would be getting an 8% return on your savings?1 -
I constantly encounter staff who don't understand their own products (in my stoozing days I would regularly withdraw cash from my Halifax Clarity credit card then balance transfer - I don't think I met a single staff member who understood that the card had no cash advance fees and charged the standard interest rate on cash transactions), but this is ridiculous.
So ridiculous in fact I think it's somewhat likely that they were deliberately mis-selling. I would not have been able to bite my tongue in that situation, and I'm curious how they would have reacted if challenged.0
