Customer service advice no 1 - Barclays bank

I went into Barclays today and was told the following:

"Oh, while you are here, let me tell you this - you have the Barclays Rainy day saver account which gives you 5% interest.

I can set you up today with an account on your Blue rewards and that means in total you will be getting 8% interest"

Aghhh - he's missing a trick there, isn't the Blue rewards account 3.5% and he should have offered me 8.5%!

I do wonder how many people has taken him up on his 'offer'

Some bank staff are poorly trained.  Lloyds once promoted their monthly saver to me as paying the full interest rate on the final balance!  I couldn't be bothered to try and explain to her how it really worked.

A Barclays rep, in a Barclays branch, suggested that if you open a 3% account alongside your 5% account then you would be getting an 8% return on your savings?

Right, I'm off to Barclays this morning to get myself some of these magic cumulative savings rates accounts.

Maybe you'll find another advisor under the same illusion -

I've been told I'll get an email to rate my experience at Barclays. That could be fun.

Did you ask if you could open multiple accounts to get an even higher rate?

They don't seem to ask that one in these surveys
