New York flights question

We are looking to book return flights for 2 adults and 2 kids approximately 14th Aug 24 to 28th Aug 24. Ideally wanted to go from Manchester but it works out about £900 more than going from LHR. It seems to be the return leg that massively ups the price. My question is, is it likely more flights will be released soon (potentially bringing the Manchester price down as they seem limited)? It’s £2200 for four of us from LHR return. Is that a good price or would people wait to try get closer flights from Manchester at a cheaper price? We are from York so over double the travel/drive time.

I can't imagine any airline is holding back on MAN flights for ten months time tbh.

It's simply supply, demand and availability.

Flights from LHR to JFK alone are like a bus service.

If you are in York check out prices with Aer Lingus going via Dublin from Leeds Bradford.

We chose that option last year and it was excellent.  Easier than travelling to Manchester and only 2 hours needed before check in, lower passenger taxes, US immigration in Dublin so no long wait in the US, flight to Newark, off the aircraft, baggage collected, transfer waiting and in the hotel near Central Park in about an hour.

The price was so good we paid the extra to go biz class on return.

depends.....I just came back from Canada - Heathrow to Pearson - and paid nearly £1k for just me.  Not a special flight or anything much special at all.  I've found there's a sweet spot - several months before will be fairly cheap and then prices will sneak up as the flight dates get closer.

If you need a hotel too then try looking at BA Holidays. They can work out very good value against the cost of flights alone.

There certainly won't be more flights appearing from Manchester, it has actually lost capacity to the US in recent years with the result that fares are much higher than from Heathrow. Your issue is clearly the return date which coincides with a UK Bank Holiday and possibly a US public holiday as well. If you can change that you might be able to reduce the fare but an average fare £550 per person is a very good fare for mid August and I wouldn't leave it too long in case that fare disappears.
