If you are sure that you were doing below 50 (anything above 50 is still speeding, the number only affects the points & fine) then opt for court, and the evidence they provide should exonerate you, they may even figure it out themselves and drop the case.

Otherwise the Magistrate's guidelines for 68 in a 50 on a motorway are 4-6 points and a fine of around 100% of your weekly income, up to £2500! (Plus victim surcharge, minus discount for a guilty plea, or plus massive costs for a not guilty plea as they will no doubt send some highly paid expert to backup their claim)

Best advice for minimum cost is to feel hard done by and accept the COFP.

(For the future, if when you get the original S172 you ask for photographs "to aid identification of the driver" before you fill it in, they usually send something that proves whether you were speeding, or even if it is actually your car....)

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

You could then decide to plead guilty if it's obvious you were actually speeding, but you run the risk of a larger penalty, plus all the faff of turning up at court.

And as you rightly say, claiming that you didn't notice the signs is likely to see you being given a "driving without due care and attention" penalty on top of the speeding.

To do that, wouldn’t they have to have served a NIP for the offence?
