Sainsburys final bill

Just querying the termination of the account and if anyone else has had similar with Sainsburys recently?

I moved from sainsburys to octopus on 1st october.
I submitted the same meter reading to both companies to back up the smart meter readings. They normally bill me on the first of the month so this felt like it should be quite straightforward :/

On the 5th they sent me a bill with just the gas reading on it, as a final reading, and they applied the charges for that gas to the account.

They took my normal DD on 10th.

They have still not billed me for the electricity, when they do I estimate it will leave the account over £100 in credit so I'm quite keen to get that back before they decide to take another DD payment in November! I'm unsure why they didn't handle gas and electric at the same time as they both moved to octopus at the same time

Sounds similar to mine. My fix ended on 5th, billed for gas straight away nothing for Electricity yet.  My credit balance is about £1000 so the sooner I get it back the better so I can get it locked away on a decent rate.

The reason it's so high is I needed to get the most out of a balance transfer card so figured I'd dump it in there knowing I'd be off soon anyway.

No final bill yet but have requested a refund of £900 and they have agreed so that's something.

They might just be being busy/slow, but sometimes closing readings are referred to a 'third party' for review (if they're higher or lower than expected), and this can take a little while, so it could be if you've been cutting back on your use due to the price rises then your closing reading is lower than would be expected for this time of year?

Re specific timescales: Your energy supplier has six weeks from your switch to send you the final bill, then 10 days to refund your credit - if they're late then you have the right to £30 compensation (per fuel, paid within 10 days... or that's another £30).

thanks for that extra bit on timescales - I did ask them and they eventually replied saying...

Your new supplier will have asked you for a reading.
This reading is given to the Data Collector/XOSERVE - so they can double check it!
They then send it back to us so we can both use it
This reading ends up on your final bill with us or opening bill with your new supplier.
We are just waiting for the Electricity read to come over. Once we have this we can final bill the account and release any credit.

Still waiting but they've got another 2 weeks to deliver. Its a bit weird they have to do this double check when I have smart meters reporting 30 minute usage

The double check is always done. Maybe the industry will catch up when everyone has smart meters.
  • Similar issue here, They finally sent me my Sep - Oct bill although the email made it read as though it was a final bill. (I'm on Standard Variable Tariff and have just left it on that)

They've now auto switched me to variable direct debits, I still have no actual charges applied for this month Oct to Nov even though the bill is dated to the 5th Nov and there is no options on my online account to 'change tariff' anymore.

The bill was also a month later than expected.

No idea what they are doing but I'll just leave it as there's no point changing from the standard tariff I'm on.
