    Blimey, that's bonkers.
    Seems counter-productive as you say.
  • It’s not the only example of councils making it hard for you to dispose of things.

Take a look at this from Warwickshire Council https://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/restrictedwaste .  Paint isn’t supposed to be disposed of in the bins.

If you want to take paint to the tip you have to fill out a form detailing what paint and how much is in each tin.  You then email it to them and request an appointment for disposal, giving three weeks notice to allow time for them to process the form…..and appointments are only on one day of the week, often midweek.

My guess is that most people in Warwickshire see this and just put the paint in the bin.

Sounds like they've priced it at a level that they don't want the hassle. Our local council did start charging for bulky collections a few years ago but illegal dumping went up, so it's back to being free. Our local household waste site will allow paint, TV's, FF's, normal household waste, rubble, etc. to be dropped off for free. There's a vague limit on the rubble.

Our local council will collect up to 3 items for £15. You give them a weeks notice and leave it out.

What a bargain, our council charges £50 !!!!!!
That's still less than the cost of providing the service.

I was wondering what it costs to provide the service. A large fridge freezer is a two man pick up job. And that’s before they have to degas it and then recycle the bits. I am not sure that £180 is actually excessive, although I agree that it will put a lot of people off.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

It was £60 when I asked some years ago so goodness knows what it is now.

But this was an old big boiler and the plumber arranged a local guy who does scrap and I guess they get money for parts.
They don't advertise but I kept the number.

It's why I buy local, pay a bit more but they deliver, put it in place and take away the old one all done in a day after purchase.
    Worth it for me.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
