Hi all, I recently purchased a 2012 Porsche Carrera S coupe automatic from a private seller. Took it in to my local mechanic who did an oil change and changed the rear tires. He told me the brake lines looked corroded but other than that it is fine but can't comment further as he has never worked on one of these cars, he didn't know the engine was at the back!

Yesterday the engine check light came on. I also noticed when I brake a bit hard the car shakes and vibrates. On the motorway the car veers the the left so the alignment is off. I went back to the seller and told him this and he basically told me to sod off and it is sold as seen.

I am getting a little worries now and don't want to spend £££ to fix an 11 year old car. What can I do?
In your other thread, you said:

Hi all, I purchased a 2012 911 Carrera S PDK coupe with 66k miles for £41,500 (cheapest in the country) over the weekend from a private seller. It does have a service missing and the rear tires need replacing but other than that it seems to drive okay, no knocks or bangs.

First thing I'll do is get it to my local mechanic (not a specialist) and a basic service done and get some mid-range tires like the Accelera Phi 2 from Black Circles for £113 each including fitting. The front tires are Kumhos with about 3-4mm tread so got some life left in them. Overall quite happy with my purchase
Since then, the Mechanic, who is obviously not experienced with this type of car, has done some work and now you find problems.
You have not purchased a regular run-of-the-mill car.  You have purchased a specialist sports car and it needs treating as such.  Time to swap this mechanic for one that knows the type of car - find an independent Porsche specialist.

Assuming this was a genuine private sale, then you have no comeback at all on the vendor.
You have even acknowledged yourself that the car drove OK when you collected it.
Now, you have cheap tyres which may not be properly balanced - this alone could affect the handling.
And a mechanic who could not find the engine has put some fluid in somewhere.  Now the engine light is on.  Could the inexperience of the mechanic and the apparent failure shortly afterwards be connected?

Have you read the fault codes to see what the engine light is actually telling you?

The best thing to do no is:
    1.  Accept you have bought an expensive car that is going to cost £££ to run.  Just being able to pay out to buy it is not the end of the cheque.
    2.  Get the car assessed by an independent Porsche specialist.
    3.  Based on the outcome from (2) decide to keep the car or sell.
    4.  If you sell, there should be enough recovered to buy a nice sensible car - you could have a brand new Yaris with all the Toyota reliability and reputation and warranty and should even have some change to boot.

A Yaris should suit your needs quite well.  It is what you mentioned going for before suffering your mid-life crisis, has about the same amount of space as the Porsche and will suit your driving:

I don't drive fast, I like to cruise slowly and don't care much for performance or ragging it like a boy racer.
Although, for the motorway use, you could go to a larger Toyota, maybe a CH-R.  More comfortable than the Yaris and more substantial plus more stylish.  Fits in with the original thread (apart from the budget which you seem to have revised of your own volition):

Hi all, due to personal circumstances my mileage has increased considerably. I currently drive a Yaris petrol which isn't particularly suited to motorway journeys as there is a lot of road noise, no AC and the seats aren't supportive for long drives.

I am looking for a diesel car that has comfortable supportive seats, provides a comfortable ride and and a bit of luxury while being relatively cheap to run (at least 55-60 mpg on a motorway cruise). Prefer automatic
Please do let us know how you get this resolved.

    Something doesn't tally.

    Legs are being pulled methinks.
Of course they are.  He went from a 2004 Yaris (remember who else had a Yaris?) to looking at £3,000 citroens for motorway economy to dropping over £40K blindly on a Porsche when he knows nothing about them

Then he finds the only mechanic in the country who didnt know where the engine was.

Then - surprise surprise - the car suddenly develops issues and he wants to take it back to the seller.

And not even from a dealer with £1,000pm repayments.

They nonchalantly dropped £41,500 on a private sale, without as much as an AA inspection.

    This all seems entirely legit....

In a month went from this to a £42K Porsche doing 20 something MPG and £,£££s per year running costs.

I would prefer a EURO6 compliant car but no essential, so EURO5 is also fine but road tax must be below £300 per year.

Porsche have been making the same car for 75 years and the engine has always been in the same place.

The 911 RSR has been mid-engined since 2017.  There aren't many of them and they are very, very expensive, however, so unless they plan to enter Le Mans next year, even raptor2004 is unlikely to post about its poor fuel economy.

To be fair Porsches aren't that common and most owners get them serviced at a specialist. It's entirely possible the work experience lad at his local garage has never seen one in person.

Not that the story is particularly believable anyway.
