Smart Meter - IHD - Smart Tariff
Options
Relating to anyone on a smart tariff with any supplier.
Has anyone managed to get their supplier to provide smart tariffs to their IHD where there are two rates ( smart Tariff ).
My IHD has correct Standing Charge and IHD has correct peak tariff. ( doesn't display off peak )
It all works very well but I'm convinced at some point over the last couple of years that it use to deal with smart tariffs where the rate changes just the once during the off peak rate.
Its not a major problem but one of the big energy suppliers tells me they are not able to provide the two rates on the IHD, just the peak rate along with the standing charge?
I know so many people write about these IHD units are toys, or just a guide. I get that but for some reason I was convinced my IHD unit use to display the Standing charge, peak rate charge and off peak rate charge. Maybe I'm wrong but I'd be curious to know if anyone does or is my supplier correct in stating IHD units can't do this simple task or is my supplier not wanting to deal with this?
I seems the apps out there which work with IHD and smart meters are only as good as the information the supplier send s to both smart meter and IHD.

I don't believe that the apps have any connection to the IHD at all, although I could be wrong on that. I can't see how they would though. I do suspect however that sometimes issues are caused with some apps because customers believe the rates they see on the IHD to be correct and enter those into the app?🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I'm not under any illusion that the apps rates are 100% correct. Yes they might pull them from API but the issue I have isn't really with the apps it's more about whether any UK energy suppliers are able to transmit the smart tariff to the IHD correctly. In my case the day rate and standing charge are correct so I'm happy with that, but as stated above the issue is that my IHD will only generate current cost based purely on the peak rate tariff and doesn't make the adjustment for the kW used during the off peak rate. It would be good to know if anyone has their IHD calculating the current cost based on the two tariffs *off peak* & *peak*0 -
I'm on Octopus Agile. My IHD just has a single price set, so the total cost is just a rough guide.
I've ordered an Octopus Home Mini that will show the half-hourly prices in real time, but displayed on my phone or computer.0 -
Has anyone managed to get their supplier to provide smart tariffs to their IHD where there are two rates ( smart Tariff ).Yes. Economy 7 here. IHD shows the correct times and tariff details.

My IHD only shows one rate at a time - but it is the live charge rate.
So changes from peak to off peak at the relevant times.
I cannot see both off peak and peak split units or costs - only total units - and total cost Inc SC and VAT.
But from those 5 pieces of information - all on IHD at different times for unit rate -can work out number of peak and off peak units on daily / weekly basis etc. between my monthly bill updates.
In fact for 3.5 months due to EOnNext errors, was having to back calc true prices as well (they set a lot of DD customer IHDs to Standard Credit rates)

Some suppliers, for example Octopus, set a generic unit rate for many of their smart tariffs. Why - possibly because there is a DCC charge involved.1 -

My IHD has correct Standing Charge and IHD has correct peak tariff. ( doesn't display off peak )It would be helpful if you could tell us which supplier and tariff you have. For example, E7 is not a "smart tariff" but it does have two rates and I would expect the IHD to correctly display the current tariff; peak rate in the daytime, low rate during E7 hours. On the other hand, Intelligent Octopus is a smart two-rate tariff and I wouldn't expect the IHD to know what rate applies when.

I'm on Octopus Go and have been for about 3 years. I do charge my EV and solar batteries using that off peak rate. It seems the mart tariff wont be calculated correctly on my IHD and as suggested above I should apply for an Octopus Home Mini as they will give me the running cost accurately but displayed on my mobile phone app.0 -

I've already purchased the Octopus Watch app but it didn't show correct figures. It will show usage in kWh correctly but I have that in abundance. Just wanted to look at actual cost taking into consideration the two tariffs ( off peak and peak ) through the day. It didn't work for me. Spoke with the app developer and agreed the Octopus Mini Home will help out with that.0
