Sky TV & Broadband Recontract Fee

So, the dreaded time comes when the Sky TV subscription is out of contract and goes up! So the usual phone call to sky 'I'll leave if you don't do me a decent renewal' conversation commences. Albeit this time not as good as usual, but better than the out of contract rise. Then at the end of the conversation they charged me a £20 (£10 for broadband & £10 for the TV channels) admin fee. When challenged they didn't budge. To be fair to the lady I spoke to, she explained that her hands were tied etc etc. So being in a cooling off period I decided to email CS the next day. In short I threatened to leave both TV & Broadband, so a day later they waived the fee.

In summary its worth chasing until they agree not to charge it, they will get away with it as most wont challenge, for me its another way for Sky to print money!

I got offered a very good renewal deal last December on TV alone, where they wanted to charge me £30 "admin" fee!
 I asked why £30 ? Couldn't explain so I said that I would continue with the cancellation.
After a bit of a "speak to my manager" delay I got the fee down to £10 and since the deal included a new Q box and install on a high mast, I accepted.
Previous occasion when renewing with a good offer I had been told that the £10 fee couldn't be removed - when pressed, the agent knocked another £2 pm off an already good price - so £36 saved vs £10 fee - the logic escapes me!!
