TAP airlines have cancelled our flight on the 25th Nov 2023
We were scheduled to depart Lisbon at 2010 on the 25th Nov.
They have put us on the next available flight, however that doesn't leave until the 26th

This means we have a 12 hour lay over in Lisbon overnight which isn't ideal.
Can we claim overnight accommodation? Or can we claim compensation?
Any advice gratefully received.

The airline is obliged to provide overnight accommodation when the replacement flight is the day after that originally booked, but no compensation is due when there is more than two weeks' notice given.

Is there a better flight that you feel would be more appropriate?1 -
Thank you. I thought that might be the case.eskbanker said:The airline is obliged to provide overnight accommodation when the replacement flight is the day after that originally booked, but no compensation is due when there is more than two weeks' notice given.

The only other flight that night is Ryanair which would give us a 2 hour lay over (given that our connecting flight isn't delayed) not sure if 2 hours will give us enough time to collect our bags and check them back in again and go through security.0 -
If you currently have a booked connection with TAP (albeit now with an overnight stop), then choosing to replace the second leg with a flight on an unconnected airline would leave you exposed to risk if you missed that, as neither airline would be responsible for any compensation or reimbursement of expenses in such circumstances (unless the first flight was more than three hours late due to reasons within the airline's control).Trips76 said:The only other flight that night is Ryanair which would give us a 2 hour lay over (given that our connecting flight isn't delayed) not sure if 2 hours will give us enough time to collect our bags and check them back in again and go through security.1 -
Thank you Eskbanker for your responses. Since then our experience has only got worse.
We decided to keep with the new flight mentioned above and booked accommodation.
On the 20th November we were notified that this "new" flight had been cancelled and that they had put us on the next available flight on the 26th November at 13:15.
My question is can we recover the cost of the accommodation for the evening of the 25th November to cover the first flight cancellation and then claim compensation for the second cancelled flight?

Theoretically yes, but in practice many have struggled to recover costs from TAP, who I think aren't doing well financially.Trips76 said:Thank you Eskbanker for your responses. Since then our experience has only got worse.
