I should have known better

OK, so against my better judgement I ordered 2 pairs of Extra wide ankle boots from Saleshoes.co.uk. The headline on the ad was Clarkdiscount-online; note not 'Clarks'.
When they arrived, the quality wasn't marvellous, but for just under £20 a pair, I was prepared to accept them........ until I tried the first pair on. I did get my foot into them, but the zip wouldn't begin to do up and the gap was approx 3"; who has ankles this narrow? I put my hand into the second pair to straighten them out, they'd arrived in no more that a grey poly envelope, and I could feel the poorly sewn seam sticking into the 'foot space' , so they could not be worn at all.
The response to my email to them was "20% off if I kept them but contact again if I didn't but I would be charged postage" The response to my second email ,explaining why neither were of any use to me and that I didn't expect to have to pay for the return of faulty goods, was " 25% off if I kept them, but I would have to pay postage to the given address... in China". I've looked up postage and it's approx £40.
I guess that 25% is my best option, assuming I am refunded this discount. Lesson learnt!

Was this one of those ads you see on Facebook? I've seen a few for shoes that looked like just what I need, but won't trust them. How did you pay? Could you ask your credit card or bank for a chargeback on debit card, or open a paypal dispute ?I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.2

The contact us page does have their address but sadly it's in Hong Kong so no consumer rights (apart from those offered in Hong Kong, if any and even if so enforcement is not probable).
They might be willing to up the discount if you pester them.
Card chargeback for not as described will require the goods to be returned and even them I don't know what the chargeback process will make of something like wide ankles on shoes, @born_again might advise further.
Was there a UK return address on the parcel, again not sure where the bank would require you to return the goods to.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces1 -
You would need to try & return the goods. Only if they said you can't could you get away with not.
Note these are not faulty. They just do not fit. So in effect this is not a chargeback issue.
Unless they were claiming they are Clarkes shoes (not just website title) & you could get Clarkes to confirm they are not a supplier of their products & then no return, as it would be a counterfeit chargeback.Life in the slow lane1 -
The Facebook advert seems to show jumpers etc which Clarks shoes would not be selling.
A big warning.0 -
Thanks everyone. Even though one pair is faulty; the seam is badly sewn inside, forming a point which sticks into my foot, I may try for a larger discount and will then put it down to experience.0

Without the 'e'.
OP
Are these shoes branded CLARKS?
Usually Clarks footwear has a model name. e.g. Clarkdale Jax.
If you Google this, it will show you the item. They are boots.
I've bought a number of pairs of footwear from Clarks online and Clarks outlet online.
They have always arrived in branded boxes with tissue paper.1 -

Two 'o's and one 'p'.

They don’t sound like Clark’s shoes. I’m of the generation that wore Clark’s shoes as a child and they were also well made. They are still pretty good. There is a big shopping outlet village, Clark’s Village, near Glastonbury in Somerset and they have hundreds of decent shoes at reasonable prices (sorry for advertising, I don’t work there but it’s not far from us and is my favourite place to shop
).
