E7 user - new smart meter installed by EDF but maybe single rate not two rate

Rich_888 said:Thanks, didn't see that before, menu is so stupidly complicated. Just checked, it says 04:02. However, is it meant to be a 24hr clock and should be 16:02?This looks like a critical code bug that may be affecting a large number of E7 customers with smart meters. My understanding is that SMETS2 is supposed to sync time when your readings are uploaded. Clearly, that's not working as designed for you and me.As you say, simple checks like these are hidden behind obscure menus so most people would be completely unaware. It could be costly when the bill arrives.

Checked my meter's date and time - each correct, and in 24 hour mode.1

Great, thanks for that. Finally know what my issue is.0 -
BillBrumNew said:I think it has not yet fully connected to the Data Communications Company as there is what I think is the 'disconnected' symbol on show.Nope, that's the status of the cut-off relays.1

I have now been able to find the rates, and photos are attached. It has been six days since the unit was fitted, and the numbers seem low.0 -
Thanks for all comments. I see now that although I looked at what seemed small numbers, the consumption appears higher than what should be average for two people in a flat. Maybe I am just a heavy user, although my night storage heaters have not been on during the past week. Looking at the readings just now (almost exactly 24 hours since the ones I posted) I see that my night reading has increased by 1kWh, and the day reading has increased by 7kWh to 74.
I'd like to ask another question about what the in house display has shown me. At midnight it started that period with a 'usage' of 19Wh. Does that reading actually refer to the hour or half hour before midnight? If not, how can it show that level of usage right at the start of the hour? By the end of that hour it showed usage of 31Wh. At the start of the next hour it again started with a usage figure, this time 16Wh. I know that the meter updates to the network half-hourly, so is that why each hour starts with a positive reading? Why would an hour not start with zero?
I'm sure someone will be able to advise me. Cheers.

Hi @BillBrumNew ...
Those energy usage figures (19Wh, 16Wh, 31Wh and 28Wh) are what I use at that time of night if I have my laptop on with intermittent fridge (laptop power on average 15W, fridge 75W).0 -
Hi dealyboy. The items that would have been powered at those times were the fridge-freezer, a couple of low energy lamps, a WiFi router and (on standby) a TV and cable TV box. The thing that I don't understand is that each charging hour doesn't start at zero. Hopefully someone on here will explain it.1

Your IHD isn't used 'in anger' for billing or enforcement, it's merely bait to promote the uptake of smart meters. It's the equivalent of fairground prizes, the trinkets in Christmas crackers or the cheap plastic toys and toffee bars that used to fall out of cereal packets and comics.Consequently it's unlikely that much time or money has been invested in the best software or display intelligibility.Issues including VAT and the standing charge muddy the waters, its tariff info may be out of date, and it probably doesn't show day / night usage on E7.At best it's only a very rough and ready guide to consumption rather than a precision measurement device.0

A couple of questions ... What are your off-peak times? What is the significance of green and orange background colours?
So to summarise ... today 11th October your SmartView 3 IHD showed the following usage ...
At Time Period Total Colour
====================================================
00:02 00:00-01:00 19.0Wh green
00:28 00:00-01:00 19.0Wh green
00:59 00:00-01:00 31.0Wh orange
01:00 01:00-02:00 16.0Wh green
01:29 01:00-02:00 16.0Wh green
01:30 01:00-02:00 28.0Wh orange
You have devices that would use those ballpark levels of consumption.
You can't explain the figures, especially at the start of a time period, and ... neither can I. Well done for staying up though.
Edit: Just to add I am also with EDF, have E7, but no NSHs. My meter and IHD are different to yours (fitted by E.On Next), I do not have the capability to see hourly consumption figures on my IHD. My account is set for half hour reads.
Edit2: Just guessing ... could 'green' indicate the power level at that time indicative of the hour's energy if continued (I have that on my IHD ... 'Now' which will show current power in W/kW or alternatively in pence) and 'orange' energy actually used to that point in the hour?0
