Bauer ban?

I hope you lovely people can help me shed some light.
Was fortunate enough to win 2k from a puzzle magazine Bauer competition. In the letter received nothing has been mentioned about the Bauer 6 months ban.
Now, reading the T&C's,it seems I am banned from entering the Bauer magazine comps, but not the radio ones.
Could someone shed some light on the ban and which comps I am allowed/not allowed to enter?
Thanks

It was my understanding you are not allowed to enter any of their competitions.

    What makes you think that?

There's a few pages of posts on the same topic in this thread.

The terms are a bit contradictory, but they say this:

4.12          Prize Limits. Unless otherwise stated in the Specific Terms, each entrant is limited to winning one prize per Competition. There is no limit on the value of a single prize that may be provided to the individual winners of a Competition. However, so that we can ensure fairness of our Competitions we reserve the right to prevent a person to win more than one prize valued at £500 or more via any of our Competitions in any given six (6) month period. For avoidance of doubt this means that an entrant will not be eligible to win any prize if the entrant has in the past six (6) months won a prize valued at £500 or more.  We reserve the right to disqualify your mobile phone number from future Competitions during this period.

So it says you can't win more than one prize worth £500 or more. And then goes onto say for the avoidance of doubt that means you are unable to win any prize if if the past 6 months you have won a prize valued at £500 or more.

I have always understood that the above rules are Bauer competition rules which apply to all Bauer products, both radio and published, so ANY competition prize worth £500 or above won from either magazines or radio will ban you from winning any further prize from any Bauer competition for 6 months.

Originally my understanding was you could still win other prizes worth less than £500 but actually the clarification clearly states any prize "For avoidance of doubt this means that an entrant will not be eligible to win any prize if the entrant has in the past six (6) months won a prize valued at £500 or more" which clearly rules out all prizes after a £500 or over win. So you could win multiple prizes worth less than £500 but £500 or more and you are completely done for 6 months.

Which is actually a vast improvement for many as it is only the winner that is ruled out rather than the address/household/relatives

    rule were

"However, no person or persons at the same residential address may win more than one prize valued at £500 or more via any of our Competitions in any given six (6) month period." (which is where my thinking second etc wins were allowed if they were worth less then £500 probably came from)

    and some
"In addition to previous winners, family relations of, or those living at the same residential address as, previous winners of this contest are ineligible to enter"

Global Radio rules are different and they inform in writing if you are banned

if you have either (A) won a prize valued at £1,000 or above, or (B) won more than one prize during the previous six months.. If we choose to exercise this right, we will notify you in writing.

I have checked the T&C's for one of their radio comps (Magic radio:Win a two-night hotel stay at a Holiday Inn Express® hotel plus £500 spending money! | Win - Magic Radio (planetradio.co.uk)) and this was in there:

Anyone who has won a Bauer competition to the value of £500 or more within the past 6 months on any Bauer Radio Brand, will not be eligible to take part in this competition nor will anyone else at their address.

Hence my question is it Bauer magazines, radio or all?

Seems is best if I just stay away from any Bauer Comps for 6 months, so will leave it to that.

    Thanks all, appreciate your help

My guess is they are using an old template as they still exclude by address as well (I have seen those ones posted before)

"Anyone who has won a Bauer competition to the value of £500 or more within the past 6 months on any Bauer Radio Brand, will not be eligible to take part in this competition nor will anyone else at their address."

    From Bauer Legal

This website ("Site"), is a website owned and operated by Bauer Media Group, which consists of:

    Bauer Radio Limited, with company number 1394141 whose registered address is Media House, Peterborough Business Park, Lynch Wood, Peterborough, PE2 6EA;

H Bauer Publishing, with company number LP003328 and whose registered address is Media House, Peterborough Business Park, Lynch Wood, Peterborough, PE2 6EA; and

Bauer Consumer Media Limited, with company number is 01176085 and whose registered address is Media House, Peterborough Business Park, Lynch Wood, Peterborough, PE2 6EA (VAT Registration Number is 918561701).

and the general competition T&Cs from the Bauer Media site are the ones already posted above which are

Prize Limits. Fair enough, I can see why you would think that, in that case!

However, at the very top of those terms, it says:

These terms and conditions (the “Specific Terms”) for the Competition should be read alongside  our general competition terms and conditions at: http://www.bauerlegal.co.uk/radio-competition-terms.html (the “General Terms”) which will also apply to this Competition.

    The General Terms state:

1.1             These terms and conditions are our “General Terms” and they apply to every prize competition and prize draw (each a “Competition”) that we, Bauer Media, promote and administer including without limitation on radio, in magazine, online and/or mobile.

and those terms have the restriction which has been quoted elsewhere in the thread:

4.12          Prize Limits. Unless otherwise stated in the Specific Terms, each entrant is limited to winning one prize per Competition. There is no limit on the value of a single prize that may be provided to the individual winners of a Competition. However, so that we can ensure fairness of our Competitions we reserve the right to prevent a person to win more than one prize valued at £500 or more via any of our Competitions in any given six (6) month period. • Funny enough I’ve just been discussing this at home today. I won a spa trip earlier in the year and i have since avoided all Bauer comps OVER £500 and I received a wem this morning to say I’d won £500 voucher which they have since emailed to say I can’t have the prize because of the (prizes over £500) rules. I naively thought it was comps over £500 but it’s £500 inclusive and over 🙄 My own very annoying mistake for entering!

I think it was £500 or over for a second win that was not allowed but as they state now it's any prize - hopefully they will not reset your ban and have only applied this section of the rules

.15          Retrospective Effect. Where an entrant or prize winner has been found to be in breach of any of the terms and conditions of a Competition and in particular where a person is in breach of the entry restrictions set out in paragraphs 4.4 to 4.12 above, we may still enforce our right to disqualify that person and require the return or reimbursement to us of any prize even where a prize has been awarded and/or actually provided to the entrant or prize winner in question.

  • I dont really see the big need for all the clauses. it would be simpler to have a "Bauer reserves the ability to exercise discretion to winners lucky enough to win several times"

out of curiosity, how did they even realise you had won before?
