WhatsApp Texting, How Do I Get Emoticon Hints As I Text?

As you type certain words, that are a match to or are appropriate to an emotican, you receive a hint like you receive "word hints".

This is on WhatsApp.

A friend's fone does it, but she's not sure why or how.

For example:-  the word "good" results in a hint for the emoticon "thumbs-up ".

Both fones are Android.

Using Google keyboard, go to Settings and there is a section called "Emojis, stickers and GIFs". Under that there is a toggle to switch on Emoji suggestions while typing.

Your android phone may have been set up by default to use the manufacturer's keyboard which might have the same feature. If not there's nothing to stop you installing Google Keyboard app and selecting it as the default instead.

I use Gboard on my MotoG - can't find that option.....

Maybe you need to update the app?
I've checked both my current xperia and my old moto g7 and the setting is there. 
Current version 13.4.07.55......arm64-v8a (oct 2023)

It is up to date ..... just needed to go to specsavers .... 🤦‍♂️😊
