I've just been completely frazzled by customer service from my current phone provider that I really can't deal with calling them again to clarify the situation, so thought I would come here to ask
My current phone contract expires on 24th October. I have just received a PAC code after a lot of back and forth. I just wanted to clarify when I should be scheduling the number switch to the new provider? I'm yet to order the new SIM, but I am able to select the date of switch when I order.
My worry is if I switch too early, I'll get an early contract charge with my current provider, and if I switch too late, I'll end up being charged by my current provider for another month. I can't wait to be shot of my current provider to be honest!
Thank you in advance

You will not have to pay for the full month's service after porting your number, only pro-rata amount for the days used until the port terminates service. The full month's charge may be taken and then the excess refunded - don't cancel the direct debit. Don't port your number to the new provider until you have tested reception and service with the SIM in your phone.

Order your new sim a week or so before your contract end date but don't put anything about porting your number yet. Check everything works then contact your new provider and give them the pac.

Thank you for the replies. I'm moving from 3 to ID mobile - I know ID doesn't have the best reviews but it can't be as bad as 3!
Good to know 3 won't charge me for an entire month if the PAC is delayed by a day or so. But looks like it's either getting charged extra days with 3, or having early contract termination charges by ordering SIM and switching PAC a few days early.
I guess there's no way to avoid some sort of charge?

If your port goes through on the last day of your 12th/24th month of your plan, otherwise you will need to factor in being charged for two mobile services for a couple of days. But check your new service is fully functional first to avoid major hassles.0
