10 year old 3 phone debt

Options
My daughter's phone was stolen, 10 years ago now. She didn't have any insurance and didn't cancel the contract, neither did she report it properly. So, she just stop paying the contract and hoped for the best. I know, not the greatest idea and I only found out myself  recently. She has dyslexia and finds all things like this, really triggering and cannot deal with them. Now, she's had a bill for £900.00, actually the bill went to her boyfriends house who thinks that she should pay it. I don't believe she should pay it after all this time.
What are your thoughts please and can any of you savvy folk out there help at all?
Kindest regards

presumably she is not disputing that she owes the money?

best bet is to contact Three and see what they can do as goodwill.

wouldn't the debt be considered statute barred after 6 years?

This. If the default for this isn’t on their credit file then it’s likely to be unenforceable as it’ll be statute barred. Get the credit file checked pronto.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

For service until when? Is the contract still running or cancelled, if the latter when? If the monthly charges are still being incurred, presumably the debt is not statute barred.

She didn't cancel the service, so it's unlikely the debt goes back the full 10 years, it might not be statute barred.

  • Says it all tbh that you don't think she should have to pay it. From the sounds of it she buried her head in the sand & you're now trying to use her condition as an excuse. The debt is hers & will have to be paid
