Flight canceled from japan ( JAL ) - New flight had connections and arrived 5 hours later

Options
Hello! As per the title I was due to fly back from Japan had a text my flights were cancelled. I spent the evening trying to sort and eventually had a replacement flight the next day, originally it was direct however the replacement had a change in Munich.

The end result was I got back to the airport about 5 hours after my original flight.

I booked my flight through budgetair.co.uk, the provider was BA however it was a Japan Airlines flight.

So I assuming I can claim the £500 ish per person ( myself and my girlfriend ) and according to the MSE article it would need to be Japan Airlines.

But there isn't any obvious contact information bar a telephone number for Japan Airlines. Is it worth me doing it through a website like - https://www.flight-delayed.co.uk/ ?
Does anyone have a potential email or postal address for handling this claim, I would like to avoid speaking to anyone on the telephone?

You aren't eligible to claim under the UK/EU regulations when flying with a non-UK/EU airline to the UK/EU (just from), so you'll need to check if JAL's own Ts & Cs include compensation in such circumstances and claim under those if applicable.

We eventually did fly with Lufthansa and this technically was BA, does this change things at all?

No, the UK/EU regulations relate only to the operating air carrier rather than codeshare partners, etc, so if it was a JAL flight (not departing from UK/EU) that was cancelled then you have no recourse under these regulations and are instead reliant on the airline's terms, or Japanese regulations.

Your reply got me thinking, I was only assuming it was JAL from our outbound flight and they seemed happy to speak to me. But my booking indicates otherwise.

All contact on the day was from BA, even flight numbers. I have submitted a claim on BAs website but fingers crossed it was all actually BA. Lets see...

    Thanks for the response!

As it clearly states "Operated by British Airways" on that itinerary, that does bring it back into play and you can submit a claim to BA under the UK261 regulations, although whether or not they have any liability to pay compensation will depend on the reason for the cancellation - did they give any indication about this?
