when and how often does the appropriate amount change (ie) go up?

As far as I know, it's reviewed towards the end of a calendar year (in line with inflation and the old triple lock malarky), along with pensions and other benefits and the new rate usually applies from the start of the new tax year in April. Going by my experience as an Attorney for family members who got such benefits.0
