There's no legal difference between the company asking you to pay or their debt collection agency asking you to pay. They can employ a debt collection agency whenever they want. I don't see a need for you to get legal advice at this stage.

I’m happy to set up a payment plan to pay the debt and have explained this in emails. However, I would like to speak to someone from the company as it is their fault so feel like they should take some responsibility.0

Not sure what legal advice you are after which hasnt been covered in the above tbh. If you had the lessons, you dont have a leg to stand on.
Its their prerogative to pass it on whenever they like.0
