Opening tap - tool

Options
I've got the attached tap at my parent's house and essentially there's meant to be some kind of took you pop into the hole to take it off

But we're not sure what that tool is called exactly? That way if we get the tool, it's cheaper than calling someone out to fix it

No idea why it didn't attach initially

It's usually just a small flat-headed screw in there, but that only lets you take off the top of the tap. What's the problem you are trying to solve?

Chances are it's a 'hex' or 'allen' key, probably around 3mm, but could even be less.
Do you know anyone who has a set?
Can you shine a torch in there and have a look-see? Is there a small hexagonal hole, or perhaps a straight slot for a small electrical 'terminal' screwdriver?
Either way, it most likely will be a screw, so needs turning anti-clock.

Essentially it keeps leaking and apparently there's a cartridge you pop in there

Can be a PZ2 pozi drive screw in there.

    So it is indeed hex

I've got a set myself but I'll get my dad a T handle set because mine are precision bits

Mind you, the guy is risking losing the wee cover and/or screw down t'plug 'ole, and chipping the tiled window sill

Thanks. I ended up buying a T handle set for £20, again largely because I've got precision hex bits and I don't really fancy losing little hex bits down the sink

    The T handle fits neatly

Always put the plug in when working on sinks, baths and basins.
