Barclays Blue Rewards

  • I just leave a fiver in it and have a SO set up to pay the fee from my RS feeder account. I only break even on the Blue Rewards, so I only had this for the Rainy Day Saver, which has now been topped.

I'd contemplated turning off the Blue Rewards, but since my 2 DDs are satisfied by the Ecology BS which took ages to set up, I'm inclined to leave this just ticking over and hope that the offer might improve sometime in the future, even though I'm losng out on a bit of interest and have to spend a bit of time shuffling the £5 reward to get it paid out.

    This is not investment advice.
Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."

I am going to remove my Blue Rewards since I only had it for the Rainy Day Saver which is no longer competitive now. I will keep my DDs going, though, just in case I want to switch on Blue Rewards again in future. The DDs are with YBS who don't allow new DDs to be set up any longer but continue to support existing ones.

Think I'll keep it for the time being.
Not only do I do a lot of secret shops for Barclays, I've not really got any obvious switch possibilities left so its fine for now.

I don't know whether Blue Rewards is a pre-req for your secret shops, but you would definitely not need it for switching. You might need DDs for a switch but you can have those without Blue Rewards.

Previous Barclays switching offers have offered 'double Blue Rewards for a year' (which was worth £60-£80 I think over a year) so you would need Blue Rewards to benefit from such a bonus - that said they haven't run one of these switch offers since 2019 and if they did you could always just reopen Blue Rewards.

Out of curiosity, how would you define competitive?

Can anything be competitive or only the nearest or is there some other criteria to meet?

No its not a pre-requisite for the shops, having a Barclays account generally is but I'm not really gaining by having that particular account as its pay £5 then receive £5 so its only break even, just really had it at the time for the 5k at 5%.

Not really losing out either so its a strange one.

They've brought now cashback rewards. Just got an email they're offering 5% on all spends (typical cash like excluded) up to £10 a month. Has anyone tried it yet?
