Barclays Blue Rewards

Barclays have removed mine and Ms Descrabled`s overdraft facilities and we each run our account balances at less than £1.
Barclays charge the Blue Rewards fee of £5 thus making each of us overdrawn. Can Barclays charge us If we are unable, or forget, to transfer the offending amount to clear the overdraft? Will we have a small fee free overdraft?

Yes. Probably sensible to leave at least the account fee in there each month.Descrabled said:Barclays have removed mine and Ms Descrabled`s overdraft facilities and we each run our account balances at less than £1.Barclays charge the Blue Rewards fee of £5 thus making each of us overdrawn. Surely when you fund the required £800 to maintain the eligibility to Blue rewards you could leave £5+ to cover the fee.I assume you are maintaining this account to be eligible for the rainy day saverWillPS said:

Barclays have a £15 “safety buffer” where they do not charge interest on the first £15 being overdrawn. Even if they will allow the account to go overdrawn due to the blue rewards fee being taken out, within £15 it will be fee free.3

This seems to be contingent on having an emergency borrowing facilityMy records show that the fee and reward are always paid on the same day so you could just transfer the reward before the end of the day. If you are likely to forget it's probably worth just leaving a fiver in the account
- If you have arranged an Emergency Borrowing facility, we give you a buffer of £15. If you go into your Emergency Borrowing by more than this amount, we will charge you an Emergency Borrowing fee of £5 per day for each day you use it

Unfortunately Barclays have a record of sometime (July) not enacting the requirement of charging the fee and the reward on the second working day. If Barclays can't ensure they meet the t&c why should the customer be charged a borrowing fee for their one day lapse. If Barclays tried to charge me then I would certainly make a complaint.0

I totally would too. I would also probably just leave £3 in there moving forward.Descrabled said:Unfortunately Barclays have a record of sometime (July) not enacting the requirement of charging the fee and the reward on the second working day. Yes, my records show that they didn't take the fee until the 5th in July, they were similarly late in AprilHowever the reward has always been paid on the same day0

Ms Descrambled has just informed me that she did indeed move into an overdraft for one day (overnight) in September because she transferred the reward one day after the fee.So far this one day overdraft is fee free. She, like me, had her agreed overdraft facility removed by Barclays earlier this year.0

It's along time since the fee was £3WillPS said:

I've never had it on different days, they take the fee at odd times of the day though. So I don't always notice it has gone out until the day after. I've never been charged.Descrabled said:Unfortunately Barclays have a record of sometime (July) not enacting the requirement of charging the fee and the reward on the second working day.
