EasyJet cancellations

Options
My return flight from Tivat Montenegro was cancelled on Monday. EasyJet gave no help to get us home . Finally managed to get back to Gatwick late on Tuesday by taxi to Dubrovnik, flight to Rome where we picked up a flight to Gatwick. Fortunately the costs were covered by our tour operator, but I was disgusted by easyJet’s attitude and their lack of care for the customer. They seem to cancel hundreds of flights without impunity and I would suggest they sell far more seats than they can realistically cope with. I feel some compensation should be given fora miserable two days trying to get home.

was this cancellation due to the Air Traffic issues at Gatwick due staff sickness and the cap put on flights? as a large operator at Gatwick they will likely have been affected more than other airlines.

When there is disruption easyJet typically refer passengers to resolve it in a self-service manner via their app or their website. This is typical for most low cost airlines. In the event of a cancellation they'll offer alternative flights on their app/website. Sometimes these aren't suitable (ie may be in a few days time). This is where passengers would need to be wise to their rights and may have to make their own arrangements and then claim back costs at a later point.

There's comprehensile legislation regarding airlines obligations for cancellations/delays.  It really is up to passengers to know their rights and act accordingly. During short notice disruption it's fair to say few airlines do it well, but that can be the nature of the beast.

All that said you were with a tour operator, who also have legal obligations under separate legislation, which it appears they followedso all credit to them.

Depending on the reason for the cancellation you may be entitled to compensation. However if it was due to the well publicised ATC issues at Gatwick then it won't be payable as it's a circumstance beyond easyJet's control.
