My gas consumption seems crazy. Am I reading it wrong?

Wrong, you are charged in Kwh not M3. M3 are the units.MeteredOut said:From that picture, your meter is already in m3, but your supplier thinks its in units, and applying the multiplying factor. Give them a call. You're being charged roughly 11 times what you should be.1 -
Yes, sorry, edited my post.1

I don't think so!MeteredOut said:From that picture, your meter is already in m3, but your supplier thinks its in units, and applying the multiplying factor. Give them a call. You're being charged roughly 11 times what you should be.
All gas meters measure in cubic feet or cubic meters, that is what the units are.
None of them measure in kWh so they have not been charged 11 times what they should have been.0 -
None of them measure in kWh
Liberty Secure smart meters do. It is usually the default, so you have to press 9 on the keypad to get the M3 reading.

I didn't know that.Netexporter said:None of them measure in kWhLiberty Secure smart meters do. It is usually the default, so you have to press 9 on the keypad to get the M3 reading.
Are you sure that is correct?
Isn't the kWh just derived from the actual measured volume?
When I had gas my IHD would show kWh but it is not the same as my bill because the calorific value changes over time whereas the IHD has a fixed calorific value.
I would assume that it sends the measured volume to the supplier, not the calculated kWh?

Yes, I'm sure. However, it is only a guide because it will be based on a "token" calorific value.matt_drummer said:

A similar problem to IHDs on tracker electric tariffs. The price is only right on occasional half-hours.0 -
Yes, so the measurement is actually the volume, either cubic feet or cubic meters, it is not measuring in kWh, it is just calculating it from the measured volume using a set calorific value.Netexporter said:

So as far as I know, all gas meters measure volume, not energy.0 -
I know, its crazy usage. I like it warm but you would think i like in Antarctica. The boiler is 6 years old.
Im having it serviced in 2 weeks. i think the next plan is to get a thermal camera and see where the cold spots are.0 -

I'm not disagreeing, but if the default on the display, as in the case I cited, is in kWh, it can lead to confusion.

Stove, fire, whatever? Also, is your meter marked with the date of installation? Often, it's on a card or sticker attached to / near to the meter?
