European car hire CDW/excess

dont usually need to bother with insurance as we always book from the same chap in crete and he includes all cover.  previously we used to take out one of those annual £40 jobbies.
next year we're trying somewhere new so will need insurance again rather than pay the car hire companys own rates.
they suggested checking our credit cards as some of them include this but dont tell you, you have to go searching for it in the t's and c's.
i cant see any mention of it on our 3 cards (clarity, natwest and tesco) but thought id ask if theres a site anywhere (maybe this one?) that lists any credit cards that include full insurance in europe.

and if not, as suspected, which is the 'go-to' policy these days to take out?  can be either annual or single trip, i think we'd only be straying from crete once per year

I think it's common in the US, I don't think any UK credit cards provide any sort of car hre cover
