MPLC License for B&B/self catering?

Options
Do I need an MPLC licence for a B&B with a self catering attached? There are TVs in the rooms but we’re not showing anything to the public as such - not like a sports bar or similar. Any guidance? (We’re based in Scotland in case it’s relevant)

  • Answered on the website - "If you are showing TV programmes or movies in a public space then you need a special license on top of your TV Licence or TV subscription. This applies to shops, restaurants, bars, hotels, clubs, dentist rooms, car showrooms and even semi-public spaces like membership clubs, employee breakrooms or gyms"

Think you'll need TV licence though for the B&B which would cover all TVs in the building.

The same website homepage includes Hotel Rooms as an example of a public/semi-public space

I believe the answer is yes, whilst someone cannot simply walk off the street and go into a B&B room the public can access it simply by paying a fee (a stay for the night) and therefore isnt covered by the general TV licence that covers a household.

If in doubt, speak to them. My limited experience isnt that they are a money grabbing corporate entity and if you dont need one they will say so rather than trick you into buying something you dont need.
