I got the impression some kind of tip was kind of expected with removal crews, but I've never used one before.
How do you do it? A percentage? A fixed amount per head? A case of beer?

Why tip them - I assume they are getting paid to do the job anyway.
I don't get tipped in my job5 -
My four removal men worked for four hours on my move a few miles up the road. I had about a hundred boxes, lots of big bulky paintings, a sofa and chairs, chest of drawers and two beds to dismantle/make up again. I gave them £20 each, they were courteous and cheerful throughout the job.£216 saved 24 October 20140

You pay the company for a service they in turn pay the staff. Tip if you want to but we don't tip everyone who offers a service do we? Do you tip the surveyor or the solicitor or the EA, removal company is no different in this scenario.0

Lots of tight people.about but that's the same everywhere some like to tip good service and some believe it is all included as they get their minimum wage so sod em.....
For us we have tipped well int he past for excellent service. The one where they listen and are careful etc. In that instance the 4 man crew got £100.
A more recent more the movers were less communicative did an OK job and infact damaged a couple of items of furniture. We tipped the 4 man crew £40 as we had some touch ups to do on the furniture.
See how it goes and if you think they did a great job then tip them for a great job.
Lots of moving staff are on minimum wage and it's not an easy job.0 -
I'd disagree that the removal company is no different to EA, surveyor, or solicitor. They are most likely at or near the bottom of the rung when it comes to wages compared to the former. I think I'd tip based on what the move involved. In reality, it's something you do afterwards, so isn't going to make them perform any better, but if they do a good job when we move I'd happily tip them in the region of £10-£20 per person.0

I moved recently and tipped £10 each person on the day before the move for half a days work packing and a further £20 each on removal day. Was very well received.0

On our most recent move we tipped £20 each (and I gave them some home made cake & biscuits)0

Best to tip before, I agree.

Nothing for my last move. I paid a lot of money and expected and got an excellent service I but wasn't going to pay any more. I was asked to leave reviews on Trust Pilot and Google and if I did and mentioned the removal crew by name, they would get a bonus. I was happy to do that.0
