Cheap tyres on an expensive high powered sports car is not "minimise costs as much as possible". It is "dead in a ditch as soon as possible".I remember about 1980 I was having two tyres fitted to my company Ford Cortina. Premium tyres, maybe £30 a pop. While waiting, a high-profile jockey came in with his Porsche, and paid £170 for a tyre - half my monthly salary. So, after 40 years of inflation …1 -

This is why I decided to stick with budget tiresThen why the fudge did you buy a high performance car? This definitely sounds like our old friend again. In case you are serious; even if you're not driving 'fast', it's a very high powered rear wheel drive car that cost you £40k. You don't want to spin in at a roundabout and write it off over £200 worth of tyres.A Carrera S PDK specifically? Because if you're not going to drive it sportily, why not spend a quarter of that on a cheaper Porsche, given they all look pretty much the same.Though I'm more convinced this is a wind up. Do we need to go through the custard test farce again?
The Chrono package allows you to alter the cars response and handling by selecting different engine and chassis setting, I also think it comes with launch control and a hideous clock on the dash as well.
The different settings will sharpen up the gear changes, stiffen the engine mounts, increase throttle response (increases the rev limiter?) and back off things like the PSM (Porsche Stability Management system), PDCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) and sharpens up the electric steering.
Basically it backs off or turns off all the driver aids and makes it almost inevitable the thing will swap ends before you notice.

I also wouldn't chance those tyres, it's Michelin Pilot Super Sports or nothing on one of these.
Most owners from new couldn't get rid of the OEM Pirelli's fast enough, god knows what it'd be like on mid range tyres, let alone budget ones.
Good chance they won't last long anyway, what with all the weight and power over the back axle, chances are it's false economy.0 -
raptor2004 said:Hi all, I purchased a 2012 911 Carrera S PDK coupe with 66k miles for £41,500 (cheapest in the country) over the weekend from a private seller. It does have a service missing and the rear tires need replacing but other than that it seems to drive okay, no knocks or bangs.
First thing I'll do is get it to my local mechanic (not a specialist) and a basic service done and get some mid-range tires like the Accelera Phi 2 from Black Circles for £113 each including fitting. The front tires are Kumhos with about 3-4mm tread so got some life left in them. Overall quite happy with my purchase
Running it on anything other than premium tyres is another great way to appear to save money, at the expense of ruining the driving experience as it will affect handling and costing ££££ by increasing the depreciation curve come resale time.
Another great way to lose further value in the car is to drop it in to your local mechanic for a service rather than take it to a Porsche specialist.
Surprised at how you went from looking at £3000 Citroens and Peugeots to dropping £40K+ on a car.
We look forward to seeing pictures of it.1 -
