On GEUK (Now 100Green). SVT seems good, or am I missing something?

I will automatically switch to 100Green's Sparkling SVT at the end of this month. As far as I can see, it's better than I have now (GEUK's Sparkling Fixed) and better than Octopus etc. Here's what I have now, compared with the SVT and new Fixed they are offering. Would love to know people's thoughts on whether this is a good deal, whether I should go Fixed or SVT, and if it compares well to other providers. Thanks!

  • Depends whether you think there will be a rise at the January price setting. Some analysts think there will be but it depends on the winter weather, mainly. International events could upset the apple cart, too.

As there is no exit fee on the fix, I think I would be inclined to go for that and then make another decision in January.
  • The gas unit price is horrendous. Have a look at Octopus.

Why is your electricity usage so astronomical when you have gas?
  • It's not cheaper than Octopus.

(Rates from July-September this year.  Source https://octopus.energy/blog/energy-price-cap-july-2023/
    From October https://octopus.energy/blog/energy-price-cap-oct-2023/ )

'Better' is subjective, whether paying the extra for 100Green's eco credentials is worth it to you.
  • Are the annual consumption figures correct? I can understand the gas, if it is a large house, but the electricity seems very high as you are, presumably, not using it for heating.

How is a unit price of 9.99p/kWh (or more) for gas cheaper than 7.5p/kWh? High energy users benefit overall from low unit costs.

If, at the end of the day, what came the pipes and wires was 100% renewable then we might all consider paying a premium for it. That said, the Boss of Ecotricity has done exceptionally well out of renewables. Electric flight not going quite so well.

As others have said, if you value 100Green's eco credentials then the SVT is slightly cheaper but the fix gives you price stability. But they are both more expensive than the Ofgem cap and more expensive than the majority of other suppliers' tariffs, fixed or variable.
You can see Octopus's current tariffs here:
https://octopus.energy/tariffs/ (ignore the "get a quote" button, then enter your postcode in the box below it and filter on domestic tariffs.)

Do 100Green still offer their Tide four-rate time-of-use tariff? I see that it isn't available to new customers, but can you get it as an existing one?

Just received a email stating our gas will be 6.825 kWh down from 7.44 (Octopus Flexible) from October. Yorkshire.

A few have asked this. We have 5 people in our house, it's a reasonable size, we all work from home, and my wife runs a catering business so we have 8 fridges, 4 freezers and the dishwasher's on 5 times a day!

Thanks for all your advice. Looks like Octopus is better on all figures on Fixed than 100Green. Green is not important for me in the decision (at least, not as important as having enough money to live!).

My thought process - as we work and live at home doing the day, there's no point for us in the Eco7 offerings from Octopus. So, the remaining choice is between Fixed (Octopus) and Variable (maybe 100Green as no exit penalty). I realise it is a jump into the dark, but what are most of you going for?
