Free license for the aged?

So I was going to give up the TV. I rarely watch it and have been working my way through iplayer old progs and nearly finished.

But it suddenly dawned on me that I'm old and in one year and a month (TV licensewise) I don't have to pay for my license.

So it's due 30th September, birthday first week November.
Will I have to pay a whole years worth in they year I'm 75  :# before the free license kicks in?

Should I pay this years to make it easier to claim a free on in a year and a months time?

Would be grateful for the advice as I can't find it  on the expected sites and it must be a fairly common thing.

Ok, I'll read the thread though if I don't get it I don't
Really confirmed that I'm not going to use the Beeb because I rarely watch it.
I'll use catch up and YouTube, DVDs etc.
I;ve only continued because it's to be paid at the start of winter when you feel desperate for entertainment.
Grown up with the TV so a habit to break but it is time to grow out of it again.
    Thanks for the link :)

Just be warned, BBC iplayer catchup requires a licence to watch it at anytime on any equipment, including tablet etc

    Indeed Farway.
But still nothing new I want to watch.
The new comedy leaves me bemused and scarey drama repetitive. The few factual seem to treat you like children.
Small place so tv and stand sitting in corner doing nothing could create some space.
