Yes. And a valid MOT.Android07 said:I have now taxed the car from my pocket.I was also thinking of selling the car on his behalf. Funny thing is His 2010 car cost him £1500 when he bought it five years ago. The car now sells for 4 grand! I am going to sell it, give him £1500 and pocket the rest of the money.
Wait. Is insurance still required even if the car is stationary?0 -

It's usually not possible to purchase VED without having insurance in place.Android07 said:I have now taxed the car from my pocket.Wait. Is insurance still required even if the car is stationary?0 -
I don’t believe that’s been the case for about 10 years.Grumpy_chap said:

Is insurance still required even if the car is stationary? You can tax without insurance, what you need is an MOT valid on the day the tax starts. No insurance is automatically prosecuted if a car is not SORN'd within a set time from the date of expiry of insurance. It is "just" a fine if the car is parked. So SORNing (or taking out insurance) stops the "uninsured vehicle, issue a fine- kerching!" timer, paying the VED without insurance, or insurance expiry with current VED starts it.Driving a vehicle without insurance cover is a separate offence that carries a 6 point penalty.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Using a vehicle without insurance is the offence that carries 6 points - you do not have to be driving it. In the past the courts have interpreted "using" very widely and it includes keeping a vehicle parked on the road.facade said:Driving a vehicle without insurance cover is a separate offence that carries a 6 point penalty.
It won't be prosecuted automatically in the same way as failing to insure a non-SORNed vehicle is, and it might not be prosecuted at all now that the alternative charge under continuous insurance requirements. However in theory it's still possible to get 6 points if a policeman sees your car parked in a public place and notices that it's uninsured.0 -
I have now paid for insurance from my own pocket too!I am deducting these when I sell the car.
Thank you everyone for your help.0 -
Find out what We Buy Any Car are offering they are a hassle-free and quick way to sell, if you are quick you can get a refund on the insurance less an admin fee. Your brother will get a cheque from DVLA for the unused tax remaining.

His own insurance would cover him.bluelad1927 said:You could always report it to prove your point 😀
I wouldn't worry about it yourself
You won't legally be able to move it as its uninsured so there not much you can do
for third party

How do you know he's got insurance? And whether it would cover him?35har1old said:

Not all policies provide DOC cover, and most of them insist that the car has its own policy.
Anyway, irrelevant now as he's insured it.0
