Tyre destroyed by pothole. Claim company asking for my insurance?

I think you are making a wrong assumption. The wheel sensor in question had performed perfectly adequately for 9 years until I ran over a pothole. The failure occurred as a result of hitting a pothole. Should that be reported ?Ectophile said:subjecttocontract said:So if you hit or scrape a kerb, damage your wheel rim, (which in my case the cost of the repair is covered under an additional warranty from the car manufacturer who will arrange the repair ), you are suggesting that should be reported to your car insurance ?
What about a situation where you drive over a 'pothole' and you don't damage the wheel but a wheel sensor fails. You take the car to the dealer and the dealer offers to pay for the repair in full even though you expected to pay yourself ? Should that be reported to the car insurers ?Realistically, if it's a minor dink and nobody else is involved. Then it never happened. The moment you start claiming money off someone else for damage to your car, while at the same time telling your insurer that the car hasn't been in an accident, then something dishonest is going on.In your second case, it was obviously a faulty wheel sensor, not an accident.0 -

Hi all - the council told me it was unnecessary to report to insurance company? The insurance company also wouldn't log it. They said they'd put a notification on the system but they were so blasé I doubt they did.0

In this case both are telling you the same so it's not an issue but always trust your own insurers not what some random other person tells you. Claims management companies, garages, police, third party insurers have all given previous policyholders of ours very bad or simply wrong advice, some may have come from a good place and they've simply been misguided but others could well be because their bonus depends on it (we didn't receive commission but third party capture rate was one of our KPIs which would ultimately impact your bonus and pay rise).Adamc said:Hi all - the council told me it was unnecessary to report to insurance company? You would be claiming from the local authority, not your insurance.

I understand but I've been advised to report it as an accident to my insurance company on here? When I have called the insurer and the council they told me not to.sevenhills said:Adamc said:Hi all - the council told me it was unnecessary to report to insurance company? So you have followed the advice, you've reported it to your insurers, what they do with that information is up to them, you have fulfilled your obligations.Adamc said:

As previously said, I'd take the advice of anyone but your insurers with a pinch of salt, they can be well meaning but wrong or can have altiorer motives. Some insurers are good at inflating claims costs by using sister companies to perform tasks at market rate, the council may well be telling you not to inform your insurers as they dont want them to take on the claim and increase the bill. If you hadn't informed your insurers and your insurers cancelled the policy a complaint to the FOS saying "but the council told me not to report it" wouldnt get you anywhere!0
