Bright App - missing data?

As we now (finally!) have smart meters, it will surprise none of the regulars on here to know that one of the first things I did was to install and set up Bright, and I have been happily geeking out over the data supplied by both that and the Octopus app.

There is often a day or so "lag" for either app to get the detail from the meters, (the data pull seems to happen daily at 0030 for the electricity, but often (only ever second day for the gas) but generally speaking once the information has been pulled, Octopus shows it the next day, while Bright is still showing some gaps several days later. Having just checked back I currently have to go all the way back to last weekend to get "complete days" of data - and Monday is still missing almost the full day.

This is purely a question of interest - and I don't need anyone lecturing me about "just reading the meters" - thanks, I do, will continue to do so,  and I am aware that it is ultimately the meter readings that inform the billing. I'm just curious to learn if anyone else sees this "filling in the gaps" approach to the data from Bright, or indeed knows the reasons for it?

You could try doing a data download from n3rgy and see if there are matching gaps there too

Use loop as well and you will find that updates first out of all of them. It's nice to have a few on the phone to compare.

Good suggestion - I've forgotten about that one. And you can't have too many geeky aps for looking at this stuff in my world! That's a job for the next few days then!

Ahh yes - my Mum uses Loop and likes it. 👍🏼

N3rgy is a website sign-up rather than an app isn’t it?

Ok - Loop installed - and that appears to use data from N3rgy from what I can see so there may be no specific benefits to looking at both?

Loop DOES have all the information on the electricity though - where Bright is still missing at least some data each day from last Sunday onwards, with the exception of yesterday which is fully populated.  Octopus also now shows all data up to 0030 yesterday - so doesn’t appear to have pulled data overnight last night. On the gas front, Bright and Loop are up to date showing all use up to last night, and Octopus only show data to Wednesday night.

So far the thing I’m most surprised about with the new house is quite how low the background load often is - I’ve seen it drop to as low as 21w on the IHD at times, and while I know the old clip-on monitors aren’t always super accurate the flat never even got close to that - if I saw it at 85w there it was cause for celebration. I do start to wonder if there was “something” at the flat using a higher phantom load that we realised, as in terms of overall electrical items we’ve increased them since being here having gained a larger fridge/freezer (a big American style job) and an extra TV and sky box, among other things.

Still no answers on this one - Bright is still missing big chunks of data from all bar one day from Saturday 9th onwards. Loop still showing as far as I can tell complete data for all days prior to  today, and Octopus full data up to Monday - I fully expect that yesterday will update to full at some point today though.

I have asked Bright the question now to see what they say and if they can shed any light.

Hildebrand has said that it is struggling to get an upgrade for its connection to the DCC network. I suspect that consumer numbers may well be an issue for them.

Ahh that could well be some of the problem then I guess - it will be interesting to see what they come back with in answer to my question.

Loop isn't showing any data for me anymore, or for others either, based on the reviews. Hugo is the option I've been using.
