SCS No Fit Sofa

The alternative is to remove a window. My daughter owns an upstairs maisonette and there was no way to get her new sofa through the front door an up the stairs.
Using the combination of brute force, a ladder, some rope and one of these:https://upvcspares4repairs.co.uk/carlos-type-heavy-duty-upvc-glazing-bead-removal-knife.html
we were able to get the sofa in this way

As a furniture retailer I have grown to hate the phrase "standard size doorway", I don't know why. but every time I hear it it's usually followed by major issues with things fitting through said door! That phrase, alongside "we've had larger sofas delivered without any problems" are like the sofa sellers curse. If the corner genuinely won't fit, it's because of the shape, not just the size. A hefty large sofa that's got removable tall legs and a straight line delivery from front door to living room will fit easily through spaces where a tiny corner sofa may end up wedged. The problem with corner sections is that they essentially have two backs. For a 2 seater sofa you can just put it on it's end with one arm on the floor and feed the back through the doorway first, but with a corner you lose that option because the back is on two sides. In an ideal world for the delivery guys, you'd want a doorway that's slightly wider across than the height from the top of the back of the sofa without cushions, to the bottom of the base of the sofa without feet (assuming the cushions and feet are removable). Most retailers don't provide this info as standard but if you call the store someone should be able to measure it for you. Then you can check how much room you'll have when you take the doors off. Or you can measure your windows in case you have one big enough to post the corner piece through, if you have double-glazing and it's large enough you should be able to get someone out to pop the window out of the frame for £50-£80 depending on the size and where you are. Or you can DIY it as Tet suggested. If they send an upholsterer out with the delivery there should not be any issues with the fit through the front door. Just make sure you sit all over it and test it thoroughly before the delivery team leaves, so you know they've tightened all the bolts properly. It shouldn't squeak or creak when you sit on it.5

Thanks everyone. The second attempt on Saturday was a success. Whilst I did remove the front door in advance I think that was overkill and the team got the unit in without any difficulty. They even helped to refit the door, honestly the experience was night and day.
My advice for anyone searching this with a similar problem in the future is that all SCS delivery teams are not equal & if you feel strongly that your measurements are sound and that the sofa should fit you should complain, ask for a better delivery team and try again before you fork out for window removals or upholstery experts.1
