SCS No Fit Sofa

So we bought a corner sofa from SCS recently and it was due to be delivered today. We have a standard sized porch door and a standard sized front door and between myself and the better half we managed to extract out our heavy (very heavy) 2 and 3 seater recliners recently as well as get other sofas through the same doors over the last decade.
I did my research, looked at all the measurements and there was enough room to get in through the property. Delivery drivers turned up this morning and made zero effort to try to get the sofa in and just refused. They said that the corner piece of the modular sofa is the problem because of the shape, stated that they regularly have to decline to deliver with corner sofas and then come back with an upholsterer is available to take it apart.
The chaps put the sofa back on the truck and left us speaking to SCS to consider options including arranging an upholsterer to dismantle, remove a window or try again with a different crew. I think the later is the best bet as with some time to prepare I can actually remove the doors which I think may help.
I understand the measurement of items and our doors are my risk however now reviewing the SCS website there is no details at all concerning the corner item itself which by definition is the problem because of the shape. The comments that corner sofas are a common problem should also be raised by the sales team in my opinion? In effect I don't believe they haven't provided suitable information to make an informed decision. Do I have, as a last resort any recourse back to SCS that they are not providing the measurements correctly?

What "recourse" do you want back to SCS?
If SCS are going to attempt redelivery with a different crew and you are going to remove the door, that sounds like it will be enough to resolve things.
A big pain I know, but things will be resolved.
Are SCS charging you for the repeat delivery?
SCS could just as easily ask what recourse they have from the customer failing to measure correctly.1 -
What is it you’re seeking? A cancellation and refund? If so - yeah maybe that’s an avenue to go down.
Otherwise it’s goodwill to give you ‘inconvenience money’.1 -

I had measured correctly as per the dimensions provided by the sofa company and my access space. Bear in mind as a modular package the overall dimensions are great for working out if it will fit in a room rather than each piece through a doorway. My question out of curiosity was whether their omission of the specific dimensions of the corner unit was enough to argue i could request my money back.0 -
No help for you I’m afraid but neighbour recently had a big fridge delivered. It was unpacked on the street, handle removed but wouldn’t initially go through the front door. It was then tilted over and they got it inside. However, they couldn’t then negotiate the bend in the corridor. Whole procedure then had to be reversed with fridge eventually ending up back in the front garden in its packaging. She stood out the front as they drove off, mobile in her hand. About an hour later ex-husband? arrived with some mates and they managed to manoeuvre the fridge through a front window. Made for some entertainment for a few hours 😄1

Do you now have the dimensions of the corner unit to confirm it will fit through the door?0

If there was no measurements for the corner piece - then I think that’s on them. But it does look like they give pretty extensive measurements on their website…0 -
SCS have a lot to say about this issue on their website. It has obviously been a sticking point for many sales (pun intended).
What they say (so forms part of the T&Cs) includes:
What if my sofa doesn't fit?- Our delivery team will do their utmost to ensure the safe delivery of your new sofa and make every effort possible to get the sofa into your area of choice.
- In the unfortunate event that your sofa cannot be delivered as it will not fit into your home, it may be returned to our distribution centre, which may incur a charge.
- You will be given the option to have one of our skilled upholsterers alter the sofa so that it will fit in your home. Please be aware, that this will be at an extra cost to yourself.
- The cost of any alterations will depend on the sofa type and the changes that would be required.
I think for a consumer contract these unquantified costs are unfair contract terms. If SCS find they can't deliver as agreed they should offer the option of cancellation and full refund if the consumer does not agree to pay extra.
I also think the OP might dispute that the SCS delivery team 'did their utmost' and 'made every effort possible'!2 -
