You'd hope these would be treated the same way, otherwise it's an argument against smart meters.

    Protecting them from what, how?
Also, isn't prepayment cheaper than credit these days? And potentially cheaper than DD, depending on tariff and consumption?
Electric Prepayment is cheaper after around 4. 5 units a day and gas after about a few units a day (unsure of the number) , yes.  A higher standing charge but unit rates are lower.

Organisation such as the CAB still perpetuate a myth it costs more.
Do those calculations allow for fact from 1 October EPG will be reducing SC instead of unit rate for pre-payment meters ?
Just to return to that - in my region for the 1st October for electric the standing charge is 2.2p more expensive for PPM customers than DD ones, but the unit rate is 0.4p cheaper, so its 5.5kwH of usage for PPM customers before the cost evens out.

For gas, the SC is 4.6 more expensive but the unit rate 0.2 cheaper, so 23 units of usage needed to equalise the cost. This is less than OFGEM deem as "average usage"".

One would think common sense is applied and it also is this, but now days so many things seem to have loopholes.
  • Pedant alert.
" in your home on 8 November." Only on that date?
    from, not "on", surely?

  • Hi @Mobtr, thanks for flagging the point about smart meters being remotely switched to PAYG. We checked with Ofgem and the new rules do apply to smart meters, so we've updated our story: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2023/09/prepayment-meter-ban-over-75/.
