Hive Hub, “reached end of life”!
“Your Hive Hub has reached the end of its lifecycle. This means you can no longer control your hub-linked devices from your Hive app - although you'll still be able to control them manually.
To continue using these devices from your app, you will need to purchase a new hub and reinstall your devices. Tap below to learn more.”
What an absolute disgrace, I appreciate that old hardware may not be able to support the latest updates and features, but one would expect it to continue to work on its current OS.
Has anyone else experienced similar?

How old is your hub?0

There's an MSE News article from July 2022 on the subject:I guess you have the Nano 1 hub?

Yes - I just had to order a new hub - they give you a 50% discount code - I paid £32.95 including postage, and it should be here in a couple of days. The existing system still works - as in the thermostat still talks to the switch by the boiler - but the app control has been disconnected. Overall not really happy but a bit over a barrel. To replace the Hive thermostat with another system would cost more than £33.

Possibly a warning to those thinking of buying Hive products?Reed5

Thanks for the comments, guys. Yes, I have the original Nano 1, I totally get that it may not be able to handle the latest software and features but to render it useless and obsolete, essentially forcing me to pay £32 to continue using it doesn’t sit right with me. It won’t break the bank, more the principal, absolute disgrace in my opinion. Surprised it’s even legal!2

If app-based control is important to you, you;ll need to buy a new Hub, but the Hub itself still works?

Yeah, “mechanically” the hub is just fine, they’ve effectively disabled it remotely, I can use the thermostat locally but to control via the app I’m being forced to pay another £32. Really doesn’t sit right with me. Very tempted to rip the lot out and replace with another brand, just out of principle!2

I'm not an expert on this but I would expect that enabling the app costs them money and I recall reading that there is something in their terms and conditions about the length of time to expect the service to be provided for.
If I am correct, it's not entirely reasonable to expect a company to make something work indefinately when it comes at a cost to the company.
Their revenue was limited to the income from the equipment when it was first supplied.
I assume they don't charge a subscription so they need to generate funds somehow, otherwise they would go out of business and then the hub would certainly not work.0
