USS Pension Calculation?

I am a deferred member and when I get a pension quote from the USS I simply get a few lines with my options (balance of lump sum and pension).

I had AVCs for the first 16 years of my pension and I discovered an error a few years ago in USS’s records (small one, employment dates incorrect).

I know different rules apply to different parts of my pension, do I assume USS calculations are correct? Can I ask for a detailed breakdown? I will probably start drawing on my pension next year.

If you search there are a couple of threads where USS members that were close to retirement went through the motions with USS to get accurate calculations of options.  Worth a read as I expect they'll give you a lot of tips in terms of how best to get the information you need out of USS.  Short answer though is that it's not worth just going off the first version of options you're given.

I presume the error you mentioned is entirely corrected now?

I am also a deferred USS member with many years of AVCs (added years). It's reasonably easy to keep track of the pension and lump sum using the USS deferred benefits modeller and the figures supplied when you left employment. For me, these figures match my calculations using the various yearly inflation figures and caps. Hence, I will have a good idea of my 'base' DB pension and lump sum when I reach scheme retirement age.

Same here. Given a copy of the scheme(s) rule book (and some helpful clarification from members here), I have not found it difficult to model my deferred USS pension in a spreadsheet, and find it matches the numbers I get from the scheme modeller on their website.
