I thought I'd pop in to give you all a laugh in regard to cash vs non-cash!
So as part of my b-day a last minute plan to 'feel-better' after a horrid work week, I decided to go to the local Thai-owned nail bar and have a luxury pedicure. The place has a fabulous reputation, but I've never been before as I usually diy-MSE my mani & pedi. OH, trying to make up for a faux pas or two over the weekend, dropped me off and went over to the coffee shop. While having my feet tidied up, it suddenly dawned on me that they didn't take card!!!! Cash-only!!! I frantically messaged my dinosaur and asked him to please come back in an hour to pick me up with cash in hand. Let's just say he's having the last laugh today.
BTW - feet and legs feel fabulous after lotions & potions & a massage - nails are a weird shade of peacock blue and make me smile!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! OH RT I can just imagine your horror as you sat there with your tootsies being pampered only to realise you couldn't actually pay!! Thank goodness MrRT was just close by and could bring you the money! I'd definitely be in your camp on this as I so rarely use cash these days - I think my purse currently holds a fiver, which has been there for weeks if not months!
The debate over the sweariness made me chuckle - it took me a minute or two of trying to work it out as well! Greying is quite right with it being F@rmf00ds - and we got 10 tins for the £8 I'm pleased to say! And PiP - sorry to disappoint but after sitting out on the bar all day we definitely don't want anything to do with the contents of the dinky jars!
A good fun but also productive day on Saturday up in Birmingham - a little spendy (beers, food) but worth it and all from personal spends of course. We'd said we were going to get up and out for breakfast at a reasonable time on sunday and actually managed it - leaving Brum in time to get home for just before 1pm which gave us a clear run at a load of washing and the DW run through on cheap electric. Breakfast was from the T0by C@rvery next to the hotel - always a decent deal and enabled us to run through until tea time without needing anything else so a win there.
Food wise we are partially planned this week - I did another orzo broccoli bake last night, with ham chunks (from the freezer) this time - so that fed us last night and will do so again on Thursday. This evening I am reverting back to the usual couscous - hoping for the first of our home grown peas to have with that - if there are just a few ready then I will just pod them and throw them in without cooking to maximise the flavour. Halloumi will be the protein element there with the veg probably being chickpeas and mushrooms I think. Salad for tomorrow although I'm not certain what we will have with it yet - it just might be one of the packs of salmon we brought back from the Hebrides though which would be quite a treat! haven't thought as far ahead as the weekend yet but I would like to ensure that we continue attacking freezer stocks.
Plans for the rest of this week mostly involve continuing with voluntary role stuff - that is a bit all consuming at the moment although slightly less so than a couple of weeks ago...it will pick up again though!

I've finally caught up with you from January!😳😂. Belated silver anniversary congrats and a big Whoppee to the mortgage sliding into five fgures! You both must be very chuffed!👍
Re cash - I must say although I pay for nearly everything with my cards I do like to carry a bit of cash on me. I always have a spare tenner stashed away in my purse which is only to be used in extremis! After the recent M&S cyber debacle it made me feel like I should also keep some at home in case the ATMs get hit! Mind you I did this at the beginning of the lockdown (just in case!) and then nothing happened and I forgot where I hid the cash! I found it about six months later! A few local shops have started to only take cards but a couple of small independents have a little notice saying they prefer cash! And I always find cab drivers like a bit of the real stuff! Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

That's interesting about the cabbies SSG - we don't use cabs al that often but when we do, round our way the majority have gone entirely cashless!
Tea last night used up the last of a tub of mushrooms, a small green pepper and half a jar of chickpeas - with the balance of the jar being frozen for use another time. I also finally used the last of the frozen pomegranate seeds as well as I remembered them just in time and got them out to defrost. Oh - and half a pack of fresh coriander as well. We picked the first handful of home grown peas which was fantastic - I just threw those in with the couscous so they were hot through but not actually cooked - delicious little flavour-bombs! Pud was home grown strawberries with yogurt - SO nice to be eating home grown stuff again!
Little CC money shuffle done to sort out grocery spending, a second one will be needed to deal with spending on Saturday which needs to be divvied up I think, but that shouldn't be much.
We took the chance for half an hour in the garden when I got home last night - MrEH potted on some chard, we added canes to the bean obelisk and I did a quick run round with water where things looked a bit dry. It's a habit we got into last year, just popping out there to look things over once we're both home, and it's a nice way to transition from work/traffic mode to evening mode, as well as being a good time to pick up on random jobs needing done.
I must add potting on tomatoes to my list of jobs for the weekend too - the plum type have suddenly really come on and definitely need moving up a pot size now. The rest of the courgettes will need placing as well, and probably cucumbers, although I think we're going to opt for a couple up the trellis panel we used last year, with a couple more in a growbag.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Yeah to the £100k mark how great
I hadn’t thought about tracking phone changes of prices thru backmkt - I need to upgrade mine soon
On the cash debate I got caught out in Europe recently when electricity in the city went down on the day I needed to travel home so needed to get to the airport in another town. I didnt have enough euros to pay the coach, the trains were cancelled, I couldnt' order an uber as all phone/wifi was down... and no cashpoints or card readers were working so couldnt pay for the coach!. I had US Dollars and £ cash but no euros... Luckily my flight was the end of the day and the electric came on all just in time... however never againDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Ugh yes LaPlan I think if I was travelling abroad I'd definitely want a safety-net of cash for those "just in case" moments! Glad you got sorted OK in the end, but eek!
Well, looks like we will be back on the bank-switching merry-go-round before too long as Santander are discontinuing the 123-Lite account. Disappointing, but having done the maths, the Edge one doesn't work for us and there isn't anything else to keep me with Santander in particular.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
