Initial parking

Hi all

I have received a letter from drp stating I owe them £170 for a PCN which I failed to respond to. My issue is I didn’t receive the PCN from initial parking in the 1st place and and only received the letter from drp and that’s when I knew about the pcn. PCN is dated 24th July 2023 but the contravention is the 19th of July. Drp letter arrived 1st of September. I made the mistake of calling drp who informed me that this was a issue with initial and I would have to liaise with them, I emailed them stating that I had not received the original PCN and had just got the letter from drp, they sent me back a picture of the original PCN, I then responded to them asking what I could do about the PCN since the 28 days have passed. They sent back a email saying out of “goodwill” they’ll accept £100 within 48hrs to be paid to drp. Is there anything I can do about this?

    Hello and welcome.

The first thing to do is to work out why you received nothing before this debt collector's letter.

Are you the Registered Keeper(RK) of the vehicle or is it perhaps a hired or leased vehicle?
If you are the RK, then please check that the vehicle's Registration Document has your correct address on it.
  • Thank you, yes I am the registered keeper and the document has my correct address.

Ignore DRP. No questions needed on that
Why would you communicate with them?
What ever the reason stop now. No one with any sense should pay DRP

    Moving on then...

The fourth post of the NEWBIES thread explains exactly how to deal with debt collector's letters, but to summarise that post - ignore them.

I hope you haven't given away the driver's identity during those phone calls/emails.
  • I didn’t realise I shouldn’t have communicated with them. But as regards to them giving me 48hrs to pay £100 what do I do? Seems a bit much for not getting a letter they sent

I've already told you what to do
Which part of my advice isn't clear ? Please elaborate
  • No I haven’t given them any details or said I was the driver. Which I wasn’t at the time but car is registered to me
  • There’s no communication with drp I am now emailing initial who have told me I have 48hrs to pay £100 to drp. My question is do I have to pay that amount since the 28 days have passed and I only just got the PCN from them via email when I contacted them

    No-one here ever pays DRP.

Stop taking the bait of a scam. You just ignore the £170 letters.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
