Back in the day of Plasma screens/tv it was fairly common for people with home cinemas to buy these screens that were intended for commercial environments because they didn't need sound or tuners etc as that was all sorted via their AVR and STBs. There was also the argument that they were higher quality for similar reasons as you say but the rate of complaints from users with them, anecdotally anyway, didn't seem materially lower than those who'd bought the TV versions.ThisIsWeird said:It's a weird thing, to be sure. It does have an aerial socket, so a bit confusing.
In general, they are the type of TVs you see used for info and displays - stronger, anti-burn screens, designed to be left running throughout working hours, 24/7 with no issue.
Certainly back in those days you could buy modules to put in them with things like alternative ports (eg component or DVI) and things like TV tuners. It could be worth looking up the particular model to see if expansion modules are available.
Your alternative is just to buy a Freeview set top box or, if you are hooking it to a computer, you can buy USB Freeview tuners for computers.1 -
Thanks DDG, but I didn't go for it in the end.
